The Mushrooms project is built from recycled materials — old newspapers and magazines, scraps of paper, and pencil shavings from a sharpener. What comes out the other side looks nothing like what went in, and that transformation is something children find genuinely exciting. The concept of something being given a second life is one they understand and respond to.
What you'll need:
- Scrap paper or Magazine pages/scrapbook pages/journal/newspaper/tissue paper/wallpaper
- Scissors
- Stick or White craft glue
- Any art supplies: pencils/markers/pens/crayons or paints/oil pastel
- Pencil
- Black pen or Black fine-liner
- A sheet of cardstock or thick paper as your base, or Mixed media paper
- Pencil shavings
Before you start:
Gather your recycled materials a day or two ahead if you can. Let your child be part of the collection process. It builds anticipation and gives them ownership over the project before it even begins.
